The renamed Aware training has been delivered as Opening Closets by Living Proud since 2004.
It is based on how to improve inclusion, team and customer retention and be a better employer with a higher level of LGBTIQ+ understanding
Living Proud has developed variations of the training for different sectors (corporate, disability, AOD, etc.).
The half day workshop runs for 4 hours and covers the following:
This is a very interactive training. The training gives participants opportunity for discussion and questions.
The full day Aware – Opening Closets workshop runs for 7 hours and includes all the content of the half day version. It also looks at preconceptions, myths and stereotypes. It provides a non-judgmental space for participants to examine the impact of their own values and unconscious biases. It also has more room for group discussions.
All the Aware/ Opening Closets workshops have two experienced LGBTIQ+ peer facilitators.
The maximum number of participants for Aware/Opening Closets training is 18. Each participant receives a copy of the training presentation. They also receive copies of studies referred to, extensive articles and referral information.
Opening Closets training was independently evaluated in 2007 and 2016. We regularly update the package to reflect current trends and practices.
